THE MONUMENT TO THE FISHERMAN
The monument to the Fisherman is located on the beautiful shore of the Espejo beach, next to the church of the Asunción. It is cut over the sea, in a union between man, myth and passion to be part of marine life. This work by Manuel Nicolás Almansa (1998), pays homage to the work that, for many years, has been the main sustenance of the economy of this municipality: fishing, and the men who have worked it. It represents a fisherman who, with effort after a hard day's work, dragging a large empty red fish. Behind him, the two seas that bathe the Murcia coast, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea, represented by the sirens riding on huge seahorses, distressed by the effort in vain of the fisherman, help him sympathized with the low load, introducing on the nets of the exhausted fisherman, fish.
